Editor’s note: The above video shows KXAN Live’s top morning headlines for Monday, Oct. 30, 2023.AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Prosecutors have told a judge they are nearly finished presenting their case against Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor, who is on trial for murder in the death of Mike Ramos. Taylor's attorneys are expected to take over as early as Tuesday. Taylor shot and killed Ramos, 42, during an incident with police back in April 2020 at a south Austin apartment complex parking lot. U.S. Bank has renewed its lease at its downtown Minneapolis headquarters, the 32-story U.S. Bancorp Center at 800 Nicollet Mall. At the same time, the commercial banking giant has chosen not to renew a major lease at Meridian Crossing in Richfield, underscoring widespread fears of office consolidation in the era of remote work. Colonie man sentenced for child sex trafficking

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Colonie man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in relation to a sex trafficking case, according to the United States Attorney's Office. Christopher Thomas, 40, was indicted on multiple charges back in 2021. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Thomas was convicted on March 24. The trial determined that between 2018 and 2020, Thomas trafficked and exploited victims that he recruited to work as prostitutes for his financial benefit, including 16-year-old minors. His crimes took place across multiple locations in New York, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Thomas was convicted on 16 charges, including sexual exploitation of a child, distribution of child pornography and tampering with a witness. Illinois man pleads not guilty in attack on Muslim mother and son

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — A man accused of murder, attempted murder and a hate crime in an attack on a Palestinian American woman and her young son pleaded not guilty Monday following his indictment by an Illinois grand jury.Joseph Czuba, 71, is charged in the fatal stabbing of six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume and the wounding of Hanaan Shahin on Oct. 14. Authorities said the victims were targeted because of their Muslim faith and as a response to the war between Israel and Hamas. Shahin told police that Czuba, her landlord in Plainfield in Will County, was upset over the war and attacked them after she had urged him to “pray for peace.”Czuba appeared in court Monday wearing a red jail uniform, socks and yellow rubber slippers.His attorney George Lenard entered the not guilty plea after the judge read the 8-count indictment.
